Wormholt Park and Wellbeing - Jan 2020

The new year brings a rush of products and ideas for an improved happier healthier you. Out with the turkey and chocolates and in with the vegan sandwiches, superfood berries, and strange faddy diets involving huge quantities of fresh coconut water.  You could do all these things or something better simpler and cheaper- going to your local park to enjoy some exercise and fresh air.  Recently there has been much coverage in the press about wellbeing which is about more than just not being ill. Wellbeing is about a healthy body and mind. It is feeling good in and about yourself.Research and experience have shown the importance of parks and gardens, particularly in big city environments, for wellbeing. This is termed green wellbeing. Many common long term conditions are preventable with straightforward lifestyle changes. For example, type 2 diabetes is strongly linked to being overweight and more exercise helps to stop people getting it.  So next time you are in Wormholt Park cycling, whizzing on the swings, or just strolling round you are doing a bit of wellbeing! And it has got to be more fun than a recipe for two hundred millilitres of coconut water, a quarter avocado, fifty grams of Gobi berries and a pinch of cinnamon chilli …Why don’t you join us for the Big Garden Birdwatch and hedge planting event this Sat 25 Jan, 10am – 12pm Meet by the picnic table.  Join the Friends of Wormholt Park and take part in the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch, the world's largest wildlife survey.10 -11am: Help spot and count the birds in the park over an hour.11am – 12pm: Help plant a new hedgerow.  Tools provided. All ages and abilities welcome!Friends of Wormholt Park (FOWP)
